Iván Linares-García
Editor in Chief
I serve as Editor-in-Chief of Brainbeats, a bilingual blog dedicated to sharing the latest discoveries in neuroscience and closing the gap between the scientific community and the general public. With a background in biology, a master’s degree, and soon a Ph.D. in neuroscience, I’ve focused my career on understanding how the brain governs behavior. Throughout my journey, I have developed a deep interest in translating complex scientific concepts into accessible and meaningful stories in both English and Spanish.
My passion for science communication shines through in projects like Lightshu Neuroscience, a Spanish-language channel that blends my Mexican heritage and scientific expertise to bring neuroscience closer to Spanish-speaking communities. With over 6,000 followers and nearly 600,000 views, I’ve explored diverse topics such as the impact of anxiety, motherhood, gratitude, and dance on the brain, among many others.
As a researcher, I’ve developed tools to study sensorimotor integration and measure the contributions of hundreds of neurons critical to decision-making. I’ve also led initiatives like the RULaser symposium, which connected Mexican students with international professors, resulting in 70% of attendees receiving postdoctoral offers.
We are currently living in a golden age of neuroscience. However, technological advances and specialized language create access barriers that limit public understanding and fuel misinformation. My mission is to break down these barriers, using my scientific expertise, outreach, and writing to make scientific knowledge understandable, engaging, and applicable to everyday life.
